By His Hands

It was an honor to read the role of Emory Pierce in the industry reading of a striking new piece by Nilan, directed by Gabriel Stelian-Shanks. The compassion, the intersectionality, the language, and the tightly wound knots of this play make it something truly remarkable and extremely important for the story of where our country has been, is now, and may be headed.

A synopsis of By His Hands, from A Certain Something.

“The startlingly powerful beginning of a new hexology of plays exploring intersectional queer life, BY HIS HANDS crashes into modern-day Huntsville, Alabama, where a devastating altercation between a bus driver and a passenger puts the entire city on edge…and on trial. 2017 Bay Area Playwrights Festival Recipient Nilan turns the mythology and style of the American Epic upside down to reveal the divisions in our society and in ourselves.”
